site investigation

Site investigation
Good site investigation is a prerequisite for all construction purpose and its important initial step to  for a construction.and based on site investigation we can make an understood of soil conditions and  can take corresponding action require to overcome any undesirable behavior soil causes a big collapse or failure , i here try depicts some facts about   site investigation

Main Problems of Soils are reactive clays, soft soils, sink holes, etc.

Soil data required for site investigation is :
1. Soil profile (like layer thickness and soil identification...etc)
2. Index properties (like water content, Atterberg limits, etc)
3. Strength & compressibility characteristics (like c’, cu, φ’, Cc, Cr, OCR ...etc)
4.Others (like water table depth,rock depth...etc)

Desk Study
its the first stage of site investigation. having Negligible cost procedures.Desk Study include

1.Aerial photographs
2.Topographical maps
3.Existing site investigation reports (for near by sites)
4.Other info. (from local councils, literature..etc)

Site Reconnaissance
its the next step of site investigation here we do mainly site visit and chat with locals and collect following details

1.Site access
2.Topography
3.Site geology
4.Conditions of adjacent structures
5.Any obvious problems foreseen?

then we make trial pit with 1-2 m width and 2-4 m depth for Enables visual inspection and locating strata boundaries and access for undisturbed block samples or drill a rig with Bore hole 75 mm dia and 10-30 m  depth for the same reason ,then collect undisturbed clay samples in a thin walled sampler its Required for triaxial, consolidation tests in the lab
